Year 2000 Compliance

Year 2000 Compliance of Computer Boards

Industrial Computer Source warrants that the following products have been tested for Year 2000 compliance and have been verified to "roll over" to the year 2000 properly and to indicate the proper date for the leap year. This applies to the computer board only and does not guarantee that improperly written application software will report the year properly.

Any computer board product released after June 1, 1997 will be tested and verified for proper year 2000 conformity prior to release for sale by Industrial Computer Source.

Many model number series previously sold by Industrial Computer Source are not included on this listing. For those model numbers, the capability of upgrading the computer board may differ depending on the age of the product, the support level of the manufacturer if other than Industrial Computer Source, and the availability of BIOS support from the BIOS developer (typically American Megatrends Incorporated.) In general, AMI will not be offering upgrades for any BIOS with a core prior to July 15, 1995.

Industrial Computer Source offers two suggested "work arounds" for boards which are not presently compliant and for those which may not be able to be upgraded to Year 2000 compliance in hardware or firmware.

The NTR1000-P - These plug-in boards can be installed in a workstation or a network server to maintain correct date and time, even across the change of the century. An added benefit is that the included driver software for Novell and Windows operating systems permits this clock to be the network standard upon which all workstations can synchronize their time. The NTR series time cards are designed for providing stable and more accurate time keeping than standard motherboard CMOS clocks.

See the Data Sheet for information on the Windows 95 driver software and operation. Operation for Windows NT and Novell Operating systems is similar.

CENTURY.EXE - This is a simple utility program which can be run one time in a PC to prepare it for the century change. Once run the battery backed CMOS memory of the computer is altered to recognize the new century. Full instructions are included with the diskette which can be provided at no charge to any Industrial Computer Source customers requesting it.
The advantages of this solution are low cost and that no feature card expansion slot is required.
